Video Testimonials vs. Written Reviews: Which One Actually Converts?

97% of consumers read online reviews before choosing a local business, and 85% say a single positive review is enough to tip them toward booking, per BrightLocal's 2026 Local Consumer Review Survey. But a five-star Google review and a 60-second client testimonial video don't do the same job — and most businesses still only bother collecting the first one.

Written Reviews Still Win on Volume

Reviews are the baseline trust check almost everyone runs before they call, book, or buy. BrightLocal's survey of 1,002 U.S. consumers found 41% now "always" read reviews before choosing a business, up sharply from 29% just a year earlier, and 49% trust a stranger's online review about as much as a personal recommendation from someone they know. Volume is the advantage: a business can collect dozens of written reviews a month with almost no production effort.

Video Changes What People Actually Believe

Video does something reviews can't: it proves the person behind the praise is real. Wyzowl's 2026 Video Marketing Statistics report, based on a late-2025 survey of 266 marketers and consumers, found 85% of people say watching a video has convinced them to buy a product or service, and 89% say the quality of a brand's video directly affects how much they trust it. Yet only 57% of video marketers have ever made a testimonial video — it ranks third behind social clips (69%) and explainer videos (68%), meaning most competitors still haven't turned their best client feedback into something a buyer can actually watch.

Where Klip Fits

A written review and a video testimonial aren't competitors — they're different tools, and the gap above is really an opportunity: a business with both is rarer than it should be. A single session in Klip Studio's Kapture Room is enough to get a real client talking through their results on camera, which Klip Media can then cut into a full testimonial for the website plus short vertical clips for social and ads. Whether that client is a lawyer, a medical professional, an entrepreneur, a coach, an agency, an influencer, a creator, or a realtor, hearing a real voice say it tends to move people further than reading it ever does.
